Cairo, Egypt: Nahla Mokhtar, the Communications and Sustainability Responsible Director of L’Oréal Egypt, has emphasized that empowering women is a fundamental component of L’Oréal’s strategic approach.
L’Oréal Egypt has introduced a range of initiatives aimed at empowering women in the country and addressing their challenges, Mokhtar stated.
In an interview with CSR Egypt, Mokhtar highlighted that L’Oréal collaborated with a renowned American foundation specializing in research in 2020 to conduct a comprehensive study on the challenges that hinder women from achieving their ambitions.
The results of this study revealed that sexual harassment remains a significant barrier for women, particularly when they enter the workforce.
To combat this issue, L’Oréal has launched tailored training programs available on its website to provide women with the necessary skills to confront this challenge. Mokhtar noted that approximately 4,000 women have already benefited from these training programs.
In 2021, L’Oréal partnered with the non-profit organization Metamen to organize training programs across various governorates in Egypt to address sexual harassment, Mokhtar added.
Mokhtar commended the Egyptian government’s swift actions to combat sexual harassment, including the implementation of legislation aimed at safeguarding women’s rights. The collaboration between the government and civil society organizations engaged in voluntary efforts has also been instrumental in addressing this issue.
Since 2018, L’Oréal Egypt has consistently supported women’s advancement, demonstrated by the launch of the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards, an annual recognition of women’s contributions.
Regarding entrepreneurship, Mokhtar explained that L’Oréal Egypt provides essential training sessions to equip women with the skills needed to establish and succeed in their own small businesses.
Looking ahead to L’Oréal Egypt’s 2022 corporate social responsibility (CSR) plan, Mokhtar announced that the company is set to launch a program aimed at supporting women affected by violence, in collaboration with the Care International Foundation and the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development.
