Nestlé Egypt, a leading global company in the field of nutrition and health, announced the signing of an electric operation agreement with “Shift EV”, an emerging company in the electric transportation field. The agreement aims to convert Nestlé Egypt’s logistic services fleet to operate on electric power using the Electrofitting™️ technology developed by the emerging company. This marks the first complete electric operation program for a fleet of vehicles in the food and consumer goods industries in the Middle East and Africa.
Through this new technology, Nestlé aims to reduce carbon emissions by extending the lifespan of its vehicles and converting them into electric cars. This will also contribute to saving operating and maintenance expenses.
The agreement comes after the successful application of “Shift EV” technology in Nestlé’s various operations in Egypt. This application is the first of its kind in the food and consumer goods industries. The agreement outlines the roadmap for converting Nestlé’s fleet of vehicles used in sales and distribution activities, with a load capacity ranging from 0.5 to 4 tons, to electric power. The initial application was supported by Traxxel, another emerging Egyptian company that is building a truck transport platform to help companies efficiently and reliably transport their goods across Egypt, providing various stakeholders with visibility across their supply chain.
Mr. Tarek Kamel, Chairman and CEO of Nestlé Egypt and Sudan, stated, “Nestlé leads the journey towards a sustainable future, committing not only to reduce carbon emissions to achieve zero emissions by 2050 but also to empower local startups, encourage innovation, and have a positive impact on society. By adopting advanced technologies such as Electrofitting™️, Nestlé Egypt continues to set high standards that consumer goods companies should follow, being the first company in Egypt to take this step. Nestlé also reaffirms its strong commitment to making a positive impact and protecting our planet for future generations.”
On his part, Mr. Ali El Tayeb, Co-founder and CEO of “Shift EV”, said, “Our mission is to enable leading global companies like Nestlé to reduce their carbon footprint to achieve their commitment of reaching zero emissions in their fleets without sacrificing operational availability or cost. This is exactly what Electrofitting™️ technology aims to achieve. We are delighted to collaborate with Nestlé to expand the deployment of our technology in global markets and demonstrate its impact with a leading global sustainability company like Nestlé.”
